Ilhabela is officially a marine archipelago municipality and is part of the São Sebastião micro-region on the north coast of the state of São Paulo. The main island - with an area of more than 340 km² - has a small part with infrastructure, where the urban beaches of the south, center and north of Ilhabela are located. The rest, which corresponds to around 80% of the archipelago, is part of the Ilhabela State Park, a protected area where you'll find Castelhanos Beach, Bonete Beach, Cachoeira do Gato and other incredible destinations.
What to do in Ilhabela?
We could sum it up as a lot of sea bathing and delicious waterfalls in the middle of the Atlantic Forest. There are more than thirty beaches and 365 waterfalls. And the good news is that most of them are easily accessible by road, without the need for a boat or trails.
Some more secluded destinations require a little more sacrifice in order to visit them, otherwise there wouldn't be much fun to be had. Getting to Bonete Beach, Castelhanos Beach, Jabaquara Beach and other small paradises requires a little more than an unpretentious walk along the shore. Nothing a boat trip or 4x4 can't handle. The important thing is to enjoy as much as possible, from early morning until sunset, which is usually stunning by the sea in sandy areas such as Praia do Curral, Praia do Julião and Praia do Perequê.
Ilhabela is full of natural beauty by day and by night! With a lively nightlife, during the year there are great music and art festivals, as well as incredible gastronomy.
